Frequently asked questions
What is a Janam Kundli?
A Janam Kundli (birth chart) is a map of where the Sun, Moon and planets were in the sidereal zodiac at the exact moment and place of your birth. It shows your Lagna (ascendant), Moon sign (Rashi), birth nakshatra, the twelve houses and the Vimshottari dasha periods used for timing events in Vedic astrology.
What details do I need to make my kundli?
Your date of birth, the time of birth (as exact as possible, ideally from a birth certificate) and the town or city of birth. The place gives the latitude, longitude and historical time zone, which are needed to calculate the ascendant.
How accurate is the BhagyAstro kundli?
Planetary positions are computed with the astronomy-engine library and converted to the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa. We test every release against Swiss Ephemeris across the years 1900–2100: the Moon agrees within 4 arc-seconds and the ascendant within 6 arc-seconds, far finer than any astrological boundary.
Which ayanamsa and house system do you use?
Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the standard adopted by the Government of India's Calendar Reform Committee, with whole-sign houses for the Lagna chart and Parashari rules for divisional charts. Rahu and Ketu use the mean lunar node.
What if I don't know my exact birth time?
The planets and Moon sign change slowly, so they will usually still be right. The ascendant changes sign roughly every two hours and the Navamsa every 13 minutes, so treat house positions and divisional charts with caution if the time is approximate.
Is my birth data stored?
No. Your kundli is calculated on the fly from the details in the page address and is not saved on our servers unless you choose to email it to yourself.
