Vivah (Marriage) muhurat 2025 — New York

Rules used

Hindu weddings are traditionally held at a muhurat chosen from the panchang. The classical texts allow marriage only in certain solar months, rule out Chaturmas and periods when Venus or Jupiter — the significators of marriage — are combust, and look for a favourable nakshatra free of inauspicious yogas and karanas. The family astrologer then fixes the exact lagna for the pheras within the window.

• Moon's nakshatra: Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada, Revati
• Avoided padas: first pada of Magha and Mula, last pada of Revati
• Sun's sign (solar month): Mesha, Vrishabha, Mithuna, Vrishchika, Makara, Kumbha
• Avoided yogas: Vishkambha, Atiganda, Shoola, Ganda, Vyaghata, Vajra, Vyatipata, Parigha, Vaidhriti
• Avoided karanas: Vishti (Bhadra), Shakuni, Chatushpada, Naga
• No muhurat in an Adhik (extra) month
• No muhurat in Chaturmas (Devshayani to Devutthana Ekadashi)
• No muhurat while Venus or Jupiter is combust (Tara Asta), or in the 3 days before it sets and after it rises
• A day that touches a prohibited period is left out entirely

These are the generally auspicious windows. For a ceremony, an astrologer also checks the lagna at the chosen moment and the Tara and Chandra bala of the people involved — the same window can suit one person better than another.
